“What is it, Lexie?” Savannah asked Monday afternoon. “I’m trying to pay bills here. What’s your problem?” She stood up and looked out into the yard. “Oh,” she said, smiling. She started to open the side kitchen door, but stopped and said, “It’s okay, Lexie. It’s a kitty friend of mine. She’s a nice kitty. Just settle down and let’s see what the kitty wants, shall we?”

She started to open the door again and felt Rags rub up against her. “Hi, boy. You want to meet the kitty? Yeah, I don’t think you’ve met her yet. Maybe later, okay?” She told Lexie to stay, pushed Rags back into the room with one foot, and stepped out onto the wraparound porch.

“Hi, little one,” she said, crouching to engage Black Beauty. She giggled when the cat walked back and forth against her, leaping every once in a while to bump up against her face. Savannah petted the cat and crooned, “You are a love bug aren’t you? What a sweet girl.”

When the black cat put her paws against the kitchen door, Savannah said, “Oh, you want to go in and meet Rags and Lexie, do you? Well, I think they want to meet you, too. Okay, come on. I’d like to take you back over to the cattery, anyway. I don’t know what the deal is with you. Why do you keep escaping? Auntie and Max only want what’s best for you. What’s the deal? Oh, how I wish you could tell us,” she said, picking up the cat and walking into the house with her.

“Who’s this?” Gladys asked when she saw Savannah with the striking black cat in her arms.

“Just a sweet little neighbor kitty who came to visit,” Savannah said. She kneeled with the cat and said, “Okay, this is Rags. Rags, I’ve named this little girl Black Beauty. Say hi to Black Beauty. Gently, now.”

“She wants to give him a bath,” Gladys said, laughing.

Savannah felt Lexie bump her with her nose and she turned to allow Lexie to move closer to the cat. The Afghan-mix dog sniffed the cat a couple of times, then walked away. “Not impressed, are you, Lexie?” Savannah said, laughing.

“She probably doesn’t want anymore cats around here,” Gladys said. “I don’t think she much liked having Gidget and Miss Kitty here. They were kind of rude to her.”

“Yeah, they aren’t used to dogs. They didn’t really know how to act around Lexie,” Savannah explained. “But I thought everyone did okay.”

“What are you going to do with that one?” Gladys asked.

“I’ll drop her by Auntie’s when I go pick up the kids in a little bit.”

“Why? Is she a stray?” Gladys asked.

“As far as I know she is,” Savannah said. “I guess that could have changed. I’d better text Auntie and find out.” After she’d texted with Margaret Savannah said, “I guess she does have a home. Auntie said the people who live in the trailer on the Randall property came by the cattery looking for her this morning.
